A year ago today, I woke up in Tokyo still feeling overwhelmed with joy and pride. I can still hear Ms International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago’s voice, her speech. I can still feel the chill when the winner was announced in the evening of 17 December 2013…“the Philippines!” It was one of the finest moments I have ever witnessed.

From the very start I took the task and honor of capturing and sharing her stories. It meant a lot especially to her family, her hometown, and her province – Masbate – a place used to only be known mostly for its poverty and political aggression. Bea Rose changed that and put Masbate on the map for the pride she has given the country in winning its 5th Ms International crown.

“Thank you for capturing moments that may not be as big for others but are, for me, the most important…” she said.

The inspiring, moving stories we capture and share indeed help us re-live them again and again and therefore give us something to remember and be inspired of. Good stories restore dreams and hope. Indeed we survive not only by bread but also by the stories we hold on to.  – ALC
